For years, I’ve been buying my whole bean coffee at Costco. I would buy a big bag of Colombian, and a big bag of Colombian decaf, mix the two, and then drink half-caf every day. Great coffee, great price. Well, Costco has decided to get out of the coffee business. I’ve looked at a couple of local grocery stores, but I can’t find anything that I like for anywhere near the price. Does anybody have any suggestions? Does anybody buy coffee online?

I have no observations on the coffee, since I drink all of mine a la K-cup at work, but I would like to note that dog #1 looks like the RCA dog.

have you tried starbucks? I dont know if they have them in your area, but we have one just down the road, it might be a local thing, like a lil’ mom and pop store.

Plenty of Starbucks in Austin. I just don’t like their coffee.

My doctor would suggest otherwise. I started when I was chasing hypertension. It helped, or seemed to, and I stuck with it.

For a while I bought bulk coffee on Amazon in 5-lb bags of whole beans. Can be very cheap, around $6 per lb, for the “Good enough for the Engineers” stuff.

That’s a price I’ll gladly pay. I’m no connoisseur.

Community Coffee

I’ve been buying their New Orleans Chickory blend for years.

Also, keep in mind that the darker the roast the less caffeine the beans will have. Technically making stronger Coffee weaker than mild Coffee.

Where did you hear that Costco wasn’t going to be doing coffee anymore? I haven’t seen anything about it and they had their normal stuff out when I was there Saturday and we bought some Kirkland Costa Rican stuff.

The only coffee we buy online is from a roaster on Maui and it’s too expensive to be an everyday thing. At least for me. You might be able to swing it.

I buy my coffee at Wegmans but I know they don’t exist down your way so I second the amazon solution.

My dad will be very upset that Costco is getting rid of their coffee.

Personally I like Seattle’s Best. I buy it pre-ground because I cannot tell the difference between it and freshly ground. I have no idea how it compares in tast or price to Costco coffee, as I’ve never bought that.

I buy big bags of coffee online at World Market. Really good! Also - they make biodegradable pods for Keurig machines, which are awesome at work. (Way better than whatever swill the company pays for.)

I think online, you have to buy a lot. I think in store, you can buy less, but I don’t live near a store so have limited experience there.

Yes, Amazon is really handy, with the amount of stock they shift you get fresh stock. I get Lavazza beans, which are fine for everyday use but are more expensive in the USA.

I drink a lot of coffee. I used to but about three pounds at a time and keep bags in the freezer. So buying in bulk doesn’t worry me. Thanks for the tip.

It may just be a Texas thing for Costco, I don’t know. The Costco coffee, Seattle Mountain (I think) was just a great, basic cup of joe. I don’t like fancy French roast, flavored, and even breakfast blends can be bad. Just give me a cup of mud.

I was buying Seattle Mountain, which was roasted by and for Costco. It's different from the Kirkland brand. It may just be a Texas thing, though.

I like dark coffee. No fancy flavors, just dark. That’s what I like about Seattle’s Best. It doesn't have weird flavors or overly pretentious names, instead they have numbered gradations from light to dark. I buy #5, the darkest.

I like their Costa Rica Terazu (sp?) personally. Good luck.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought you meant they weren’t doing the Kirkland brand stuff and was a little confused. Not that I’m not always a little confused.

They might not sell that here since people who live in Washington know that there in no such thing as Seattle Mountain. Of course we know that Kirkland ain’t exactly somewhere special either and that doesn’t stop them from using it.

I get all my coffee (and wine) at Trader Joe’s. It’s really good coffee at a decent price and there’s pretty solid variety. Not big 5lb bags like you could get at Costco, but I haven’t found anything that I like more to make at home.

Haha! That makes it sound so much better. I’d use a smiley face emoticon, but Ron Swanson would never use an emoticon.

Trader Joes has good whole bean coffee for cheap. Not quite Cistco cheap, but cheaper than any other place. I usually get the organic French roast beans and they're better than the organic stuff Ibe bought at Costco.
